To use the device: 1. Testing the Unit and the Connections: - Press the front part ("－") of the rock switch, the test indicator should light RED. - Press the rear part ("＝"), the test indicator should light GREEN. - If the test indicator did not light, the clip connections may not be good or the unit is damaged.

1. Using Illumination:

2. To turn the illuminator on or off, keep the clip of the auxiliary ground lead in contact with the TOUCH metal for about 0.5 seconds, then remove the clip.

3. Measuring DC Voltage:

4. Set the selection switch to "VOLTAGE" position.
5. Connect the probe to the more positive terminal and the clip of the auxiliary ground lead to the more negative terminal.

6. The voltage indicators will illuminate to show the circuit's voltage.

7. Polarity Test:

8. Set the selection switch to "TEST" position.
9. Contacting the probe's tip to a positive (+) circuit will light the test indicator RED.
10. Contacting the probe's tip to a negative (-) circuit will light the test indicator GREEN.

11. Contacting the probe's tip to an open circuit will not turn on the test indicator.

12. Continuity Test:

13. Set the selection switch to "TEST" position.
14. Use the probe tip and auxiliary ground lead to test for continuity on disconnected wires and components.

15. When continuity is present, the test indicator will light GREEN.

16. Activating Components out of the Vehicle's Electrical System:

17. Set the selection switch to "TEST" position.
18. Connect the auxiliary ground lead's clip to the negative terminal of the component to be tested.

19. Contact the probe to the positive terminal, the test indicator should light GREEN.

20. Testing Trailer Lamps and Connections:

21. Set the selection switch to "TEST" position.
22. Connect the unit to a good battery.
23. Clip the auxiliary ground lead to the trailer ground.
24. Probe the contacts at the jack while pressing the rock switch's front part ("－"), to check the operation and orientation of the trailer lamps.

The Automotive Circuit Test Probe EM287 can be used to test continuity, polarity of voltage, lamps, motors, locate short circuits, test for bad ground contacts, and measure DC voltage from 2V to 24V. It has a long 5m (16ft) test lead, and overload protection that automatically disconnects the current when it exceeds 8A. The built-in flashlight enables testing in insufficient light environments.
